The Bulova watch line was revolutionized by the introduction of the Bulova Accutron watch. Bulova Accutron watches were the first timepieces utilizing an electronic movement to keep track of time instead of the old mechanical movement. Bulova Accutron's are special collector watches, especially the Spaceview Accutron watch.
Bulova Accutron style watches have traveled a long way since they were first introduced and have since become a symbol of discerning taste. They achieved great fame and the limited style variety has made the Bulova Accutron a collectors timepiece.
Back in 1952 the old watches used batteries and this lead to inaccurate time readings. Bulova reconized this weakness and constructed the Bulova Accutron as the solution. It was much more accurate and also used less parts. Compared to around 136 watch pieces in the battery powered watches the Bulova watch only had 27! Later, battery powered watches reduced their moving parts to 26 and the Accutron reduced theirs to 12. Less moving parts means less maintenance.
The Bulova Accutron lost popularity with the introduction of the quartz movement. Although the Bulova Accutron was just as accurate as the new watches, the newer watches were less expensive to introduce. Less expenses meant cheaper cost and more production.
